Zeta Melanosome Antibody. Zeta’s mouse monoclonal antibody recognizes Melanosome, an organelle found in animal cells and is the site for synthesis, storage and transport of melanin, the most common light-absorbing pigment found in the animal kingdom. Melanosomes are synthesised in the skin in melanocyte cells, as well as the eye in choroidal melanocytes and retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells.
The Melanosome antibody labels the melanosome protein in the cytoplasm of melanocytes in both normal and neoplastic cells. It is a useful tool for classifying melanomas and melanocytic lesions and differentiating metastatic melanomas from other poorly differentiated tumors when used in a panel of antibodies. By immunohistochemistry, Melanosome antibody (clone HMB-45) specifically recognizes a protein in melanocytes and melanomas. Intradermal nevi, normal adult melanocytes, and non-melanocytic cells are negative. The Melanosome antibody does not stain tumor cells of epithelial, lymphoid, glial, or mesenchymal origin.
