Zeta SOX-2 Antibody. Zeta’s recombinant mouse antibody recognizes SOX-2 (SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 2), a member of the SRY-related HMG-box (SOX) family of transcription factors involved in the regulation of embryonic development and in the determination of cell fate. SOX-2 is required for stem-cell maintenance in the central nervous system, and also regulates gene expression in the stomach. SOX-2 is necessary for regulating multiple transcription factors that affect Oct3/4 expression. An essential function of SOX-2 is to stabilize embryonic stem cells in a pluripotent state by maintaining the requisite level of Oct3/4 expression. SOX-2 is expressed in teratoma and CNS astrocytic tumors. SOX-2 is a marker of embryonic stem cell pluripotency that is associated with aggressive tumor behavior. SOX-2 is expressed in CNS tumors: glial tumors, supratentorial PNET, but not medulloblastoma or pineoblastoma. SOX-2 is also expressed in embryonal carcinoma of mediastinum and testis.
