Zeta GFAP Antibody. Zeta’s mouse monoclonal antibody recognizes GFAP (Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein), a popular marker for localizing benign astrocyte and neoplastic cells of glial origin in the central nervous system. The GFAP antibody recognizes a protein of ~50kDa and shows no cross-reaction with other intermediate filament proteins. GFAP is found explicitly in astroglia. The GFAP antibody helps differentiate primary gliomas from metastatic lesions in the brain and document astrocytic differentiation in tumors outside the CNS.
GFAP is specific to astrocytes and ependymal cells of the central nervous system. GFAP stains astrocytes, glial cells, ependymal cells, and their corresponding tumors. Many types of neural tumors such as neuroblastomas, Schwannomas, as well as extra-CNS tumors are not labeled. GA-5 is very sensitive in detecting GFAP in routine formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues.
