Zeta Lysozyme Antibody. Zeta’s recombinant mouse antibody recognizes Lysozyme, a glycoside hydrolase that acts as an antimicrobrial enzyme that is integral to the innate immune system. Lysozyme hydrolysis of peptidoglycan, the major component of gram-positive bacterial cell wall, compromises the integrit of the bacterial cell walls causing lysis of bacterial. Lysozyme is abundant in secretions such as saliva, tears, milk and mucus. Lysozyme is also expressed in cytoplasmic granules of macrophages and polymorphonuclear neutrophils.
The natural substrate of Lysozyme is the bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan (cleaving the beta [1-4] glycosidic linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine). Lysozyme is one of the antimicrobial agents found in human milk, and is also present in spleen, lung, kidney, white blood cells, plasma, saliva, and tears. Lysozyme is synthesized predominantly in reactive histiocytes rather than in resting, unstimulated phagocytes. This Lysozyme antibody labels myeloid cells, histiocytes, granulocytes, macrophages and monocytes. The Lysozyme antibody is helpful in the identification of myeloid or monocytic nature of acute leukemia.
