Antibody CD4 Antibody. Zeta’s recombinant mouse antibody recognizes CD4, a single chain transmembrane glycoprotein, is found on a T cell subset (helper/inducer) representing 45% of peripheral blood lymphocytes. CD4 is also present on 80% of thymocytes and at a lower level on monocytes. It is involved in recognition of antigen presented along with MHC class II by APCs. CD4 serves as receptor for HIV.
CD4 is a glycoprotein belonging to immunoglobulin superfamily expressed on surface of T helper cells; serves as coreceptor in MHC class II-restricted antigen induced T cell activation. CD4+ CD25+ FOXP3+ regulatory T cells maintain peripheral tolerance and prevent autoimmunity and may be prognostic factor in malignancies. CD4 acts as an HIV receptor on T cells, macrophages and brain and is downregulated by HIV proteins during AIDS progression. CD4 is a common marker for T cells and is used to classify lymphomas and inflammatory conditions.
The CD4 antibody recognizes a protein of 55kDa. CD4 is a membrane glycoprotein of T lymphocytes that interacts with major histocompatibility complex class II antigens and is also a receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus. This protein is expressed not only in T lymphocytes, but also in B cells, macrophages, and granulocytes. CD4 is also expressed in specific regions of the brain. The CD4 protein functions to initiate or augment the early phase of T-cell activation, and may function as an important mediator of indirect neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system. The majority of peripheral T-cell lymphomas are derived from the T-helper/regulatory cell subset so that most mature T-cell neoplasms are CD4+/CD8-. Anti-CD4 is used in the immunohistochemical staining of lymphoproliferative disorders to evaluate tumors with CD4 aberrant expression
