Zeta Cadherin 17 Antibody. Zeta’s recombinant rabbit antibody recognizes Cadherin 17, a novel diagnostic marker for adenocarcinoma of the digestive system. The Cadherin 17 antibody binds a protein of 120kDa which is also known as LI Cadherin (Liver-Intestine Cadherin) . The cadherins are a family of calcium-dependent adhesion molecules mediating cell-cell binding, critical to maintaining tissue structure and morphogenesis. Cadherins each contain a large extracellular domain at the amino terminus, characterized by a series of five homologous repeats, the most distal of which is thought to be responsible for binding specificity. The relatively short carboxy-terminal, intracellular domain interacts with various cytoplasmic proteins, including beta-catenin, to regulate cadherin function. Cadherin 17 (LI-Cadherin) expression is restricted to liver and intestine tissues and is specifically localized to the basolateral domain of hepatocytes and enterocytes. Cadherin 17 is a novel diagnostic marker for adenocarcinomas of the digestive system.
