Zeta Stathmin Antibody. Zeta’s recombinant rabbit antibody to Stathmin/oncoprotein 18 (STMN1/OP18/prosolin/metabolin) is a conserved, tubulin-associated, intracellular phosphoprotein. Stathmin is a critical regulatory of microtubulin dynamics and is downregulated by p53 and serves as a transducing protein via phosphorylation for various cell signaling pathways including mitosis and differentiation. As a result of its critical roles in cellular regulation, Stathmin (Op18) is present in many cancers including breast carcinomas, and is highly expressed in acute leukemias of different subtypes. Overexpression of Stathmin has been associated with tumor progression in endometrial carcinomas, ovarian cancer and oral squamous-cell carcinoma.
Stathmin is an intracellular phosphoprotein that controls the microtubule dynamics by further regulating proper attachment and alignment of chromosomes in a dividing cell. Any mutation or aberrantly expressed protein that reduces the fidelity of spindle assembly will enhance chromosomal instability contributing to aneuploidy. Stathmin can cause uncontrolled cell proliferation when mutated and not functioning properly.
