Zeta Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) Antibody. Zeta’s recombinant mouse antibody recognizes Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), a hormone that the parathyroid glands release to control the level of calcium in blood and which helps control the levels of phosphorus and vitamin D in blood and bones. Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) is produced in the parathyroid gland as an 84 amino acid single chain polypeptide. Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) can also be secreted as N-terminal truncated fragments or C-terminal fragments after intracellular degradation, as in case of hypercalcemia. Defects in the Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) gene are a cause of familial isolated hypoparathyroidism (FIH), which is also called autosomal dominant hypoparathyroidism or autosomal dominant hypocalcemia. FIH is characterized by hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia due to inadequate secretion of parathyroid hormone where the symptoms are seizures, tetany and cramps. FIH exist both as autosomal dominant and recessive forms of hypoparathyroidism.
The Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) antibody can be used in immunocytochemistry to substantiate the diagnosis of parathyroid tissue PTT versus thyroid lesion on fine needle aspiration (FNA) for differential diagnosis of PTT vs non-PTT (Utility of parathyroid hormone immunocytochemistry in fine needle aspiration). diagnosis of parathyroid tissue – PubMed).
