    ZM209 Monospecific Mouse Monoclonal

Zeta CD23 Antibody.  Zeta’s recombinant mouse antibody recognizes CD23 (FCE2), a type II integral membrane glycoprotein that is expressed on mature B cells, monocytes, eosinophils, platelets and dendritic cells. CD23 associates as an oligomer where cooperative binding of at least two lectin domains is required for high affinity IgE binding to CD23. CD23 may play a role in antigen presentation by B cells by interacting with CD40. CD23 has been shown to be associated with the Fyn tyrosine kinase. The truncated CD23 molecule can be secreted, then function as a potent mitogenic growth factor. CD23 is expressed on a subpopulation of peripheral blood cells, B-lymphocytes and on EBV transformed B lymphoblastoid cell lines. CD23 is also detected in neoplastic cells from cases of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.  CD23 is primarily used in the panel for small B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders.

CD23 is expressed in B-lymphocytes, monocytes, follicular dendritic cells, activated CD4+ T lymphocyte subset, platelets, eosinophils, neutrophils, and Langerhans cells. CD23 is upregulated in Eppstein-Barr infection. CD23 is constitutively expressed by intestinal epithelial cells and its expression is higher in enteropathies.

CD23 is typically expressed in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), sometimes in follicular lymphoma, rarely in marginal zone and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, but not in mantle cell lymphoma. In CLL, the strongest expression is characteristically present in proliferation centers. Patients with CD23-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma have good prognosis. CD23 is also frequently used to demonstrate benign follicular dendritic cells in the background of follicular lymphoma, nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin lymphoma, follicular T-cell lymphoma and other lymphomas. Together with CD21, CD23 is a marker of rare follicular dendritic cell tumors.
