Zeta Caldesmon Antibody. Zeta’s recombinant antibody recognizes Caldesmon, a protein of 150kDa, which is identified as the high molecular weight variant. The Zeta recombinant antibody specifically recognizes h-caldesmon that is predominantly expressed in smooth muscle. The Cadesmon antibody does not recognize l-caldesmon, the second variant of Caldesmon, which is found in non-muscle tissue and cells. Neither of the variants are detected in skeletal muscle. The Zeta antibody recognizes h-caldesmon in Western blots of human oartic media extracts and is unreactive with fibroblast extracts from cultivated human foreskin. Caldesmon is a developmentally regulated protein involved in smooth muscle and non-muscle contraction which interacts with actin, myosin, tryopomyosin and calmodulin. Zeta’s Caldesmon antibody detects smooth muscle and tumors of smooth muscle, myofibroblastic and myoepithelial differentiation. Zeta’s Caldesmon antibody is also useful in the differentiation of epithelioid mesothelioma from serous papillary carcinoma of the ovary.
